The Medan community enthusiastically participated in cyber security literacy activities organized by the National Siber and Coding Agency (BSSN) and in collaboration with the Data Center and Information Application (PDAI) University of Medan Area. Literacy with the headline "Seminar and Education to the Community about Personal Data Security Awareness" was attended by approximately 1500 participants, exceeding the target set by the committee.
This activity was carried out on Saturday, 20 July 2019 at the Multipurpose Arena of the University of Medan Area Campus l Jl. Pool No. 1 Medan Estate, Kota Medan, North Sumatra. This literacy was attended by various parties including educators, housewives, students, school students as well as employees within the University and other general public.
The speakers who attended the event were Dr. Roslina M.I.T from Medan State Polytechnic and Dr. Dahlan Abdullah from Malikussaleh University, Aceh. The event was opened by the Director of BSSN Digital Economic Protection Anton Setiawan, S.Sc., M.M. In his remarks, the cyber security literacy campaign was one of the tasks and functions of BSSN in maintaining cyber security through community education programs.
According to the head of UAI PDAI, Ady Satria, ST, M.Kom. The purpose of this literacy activity is to provide insight and knowledge in the field of information security especially personal data security. According to Anton Setiyawan as Director of Digital Economic Protection one of the speakers at the seminar said that BSSN has two main tasks namely protecting national security and promoting national economic growth.
Dr. In his presentation, Rosalina conveyed the facts of the internet, benefits and harms, healthy internet, counteracting negative material and government policies. While Dr. Dahlan Abdullah conveyed information security awareness material on personal data. He exemplified in daily life how the internet has brought the far and near the distance closer. Reviewed also about the internet as a platform, cyberspace, digital universe, techno sapien, digital footprint as well as intelligent digital learners. In the question and answer session, participants seemed enthusiastic about asking questions, among others related to hoaxes, negative content, how to protect data and accounts, as well as our actions if they already occur.
At the end of the event, a door prize draw was held for participants who had registered and filled out the questionnaire provided by the committee in an online format. The program, hosted by MC Reza and Kathy, was more lively with the appearance of a local band that presented popular songs. The expectation of the participants and the university is that literacy activities like this should be held more frequently and reach more the wider community, so that the public can better understand and utilize information technology.
