The Acting Mayor of Medan, Ir H Akhyar Nasution MSi, visited Medan Area University on Wednesday 17 June 2020 to discuss and ask for input in dealing with the 2019 Corona Virus Disease pandemic (Covid-19) and preparation for new normal.

Plt. The Mayor of Medan was also accompanied by Acting. Head of Education Office in Medan City, Muslim, S. Sos. and the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Arjuna Sembiring, S. Sos, M.SP., Medan Tembung Sub-District Head Barli Mulia Nasution, S.STP., M.AP. They were welcomed and received by the Rector of the Medan Area University Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng, M.Sc, Dr. Ir. Hj. Siti Mardiana M.Si (Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs), Dr. Utary Maharany barus, SH, M.Hum (Deputy Chancellor for Administration), H. Muazzul, SH, M.Hum (Deputy Chancellor for Student Affairs), Dr. Ir. H. Zulheri Noer, MP (Deputy Chancellor for Cooperation), Sri Irawati, S. Sos, MAP. (Head of BARKI), and Rahmat Fauzi (Head of BATRI).

Plt. Mayor of Medan, Ir. H. Akhyar Nasution, M.Sc., in his visit said "We would like to ask for input from the University of Medan Area which we consider to be Higher Education that has the capacity and integrity that directly touches the community, especially in the field of education. We will make this input as a basis for making steps and policies to face the Covid-19 pandemic and prepare for New Normal.

Plt. The Mayor of Medan also explained that the number of Medan City residents this month was very high, which was positively infected by Covid-19. Based on data released by the Covid-19 Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling in Medan, Tuesday (6/16), there were 643 positive citizens of Covid-19. The increase that occurred can not be separated from the lack of public awareness to comply with health protocols that have been issued by the government.

Therefore an alternative solution is needed to overcome this so that people who are positively infected by Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) can be treated properly until healing. In addition, he added, the Covid-19 pandemic, which took place from March 2020 until now, has led to a very declining economic life of the people.

Furthermore (Acting) Mayor of Medan, Ir H Akhyar Nasution MSi said, "The Covid-19 pandemic has an impact on the decline in regional revenue (PAD) of Medan City. He said, PAD Medan City had so far sourced from tax revenues such as restaurant tax, restaurant, hotel and property tax (PBB). The condition of the Covid-19 pandemic made it difficult for people to pay taxes. Therefore, we must immediately overcome the Covid-19 pandemic. So we really hope that the input from Medan Area University might be in the field of psychology and how the implementation of UMA faces the acceleration of the Covid 19 pandemic, so that the Medan City Government can take steps and policies to be taken to overcome it. One effort to overcome this is by building new regulations or culture in the midst of society through social engineering. Of course the Medan City Government cannot do it alone, for that through this meeting, we look forward to full advice, input and full support from the University of Medan Area University. "

University of Medan Area Prof. Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng, M.Sc. Appreciating the efforts of the Acting Mayor of Medan, Ir H Akhyar Nasution MSi, came to a number of universities, including Medan Area University to ask for input to overcome Covid-19 as well as preparatory steps to deal with the new normal phase very well.

"Previously, I have explained about the policies or new Standards that we will do related to and I explained in my presentation with LLDikti Region 1 North Sumatra in preparation for New Normal. In accordance with the Ministry of Education and Culture circular, we have also implemented learning from home and working from home for approximately 3 months to get to UAS online, in an effort to break the chain of distribution, and currently we are working by enforcing good health protocols that use masks, put places hand washing, hand sanitizer, and employing academic services are only part of it. "Said Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan.

On this occasion the Medan Area University also held various webinars on the Covid-19 pandemic as well as webinars with other themes. This webinar also involves a variety of other speakers, both from the government, business and psychologists and other experts in dealing with the new normal in accordance with their respective scientific disciplines. Universitas Medan Area in collaboration with Telkomsel cares about students delivering packages of 45GB and 15GB + CloudX for 3 consecutive months.

Discussions with the UMA academic community, thoughts arose to empower students to help parents accompany their children to learn from home. The problem is, even though the new school year starts this July, it is calculated that students will still learn from home. Therefore, a formulation will be made to realize the empowerment of these students.
