The Rector of Medan Area University together with PTS in the North Sumatra Region with the Head of LLDikti Region 1 of North Sumatra held a video conference with Deputy Governor of North Sumatra Mr. Musa Rajekshah on May 6, 2020.
Discussions made by the Deputy Governor of North Sumatra related to the handling of Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) in North Sumatra. A total of 225 private tertiary institutions (PTS) in North Sumatra, expressed their support for the handling efforts and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This was conveyed by the Head of LLDikti Region I mentioned, currently there are 225 PTS consisting of 37 universities, 11 institutes, 90 high schools, 75 academies, and 12 polytechnics in North Sumatra.
"The existing PTS is ready to assist the government in handling Covid-19. We will also collect data on students affected by Covid-19 and provide input related to the handling of Covid-19 based on the results of academic thought and research," said Prof. Dian
Musa on the occasion of the meeting which was attended by 84 PTS leaders, invited all PTS to participate in handling the Covid-19 pandemic.
"We ask the leaders of PTS in North Sumatra who have knowledge and scientific fields to provide input related to the handling of Covid-19, input related to efforts that we can prepare to restore the economy after the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.
Mr. Musa mentioned the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, all lines were disrupted, not only health, but also the economy, and other sectors. North Sumatra Provincial Government, seeks to do the maximum handling, such as refocusing which will be distributed in three stages.
On the same occasion, other PTS leaders conveyed the various effects of Covid-19 in PTS such as the difficulty of students to pay for education due to the economic impact experienced by parents. Psychological disruption of lecturers and students who have to do the learning and teaching process from home, to the high cost of internet quota packages that must be borne during online lectures.
